We are delighted to announce the forthcoming publication of Ian Gouge‘s latest collection of poetry, A Demand to be Heard, which will be published in November 2026.
Cathedrals are inspiring places, not merely in the realm of the religious but also through their sheer scale and majesty. They can leave us awe-struck and take our breath away — and simultaneously calm us too. Lincoln Cathedral is no exception.
In 2024 I spent time there taking photographs with the express intention of using them to inspire a series of poems, much as I had already done with my earlier collection Grimsby Docks.
A Demand to be Heard is the culmination of that project. Allowing the photographs free rein to inspire, the poems cover a wide range of subjects: identity and insecurity, loss and memory, memorial and making.
