We are delighted to announce the forthcoming publication of Ian Gouge‘s latest collection of poetry, A Requiem for Meaning, which will be published late 2026 or early 2027.
In A Requiem for Meaning an anonymous writer stands back from his life and attempts to offer judgement on what it is he does. The perspective he ends up adopting is a harsh one, the embodiment of the inner critic; always questioning and disbelieving, it offers a jaundiced deconstruction of what it means to be ‘a writer’.
This combative encounter also raises questions about meaning and what all the writer’s effort have been for. He offers his target — himself — no hiding place, stripping back the facade of the life he has chosen to embrace and reimagine it as somehow desperate and futile.
Via a series of lines taken from Shakespeare’s plays and using these as prompts, A Requiem for Meaning offers readers a compelling and hypnotic exploration into the labyrinthine mind of a writer.
