Our first ‘Contextual’ poetry reading, held last night, was unanimously agreed a great success! This was, of course, thanks to our super readers and the contributions of all who attended the virtual event.

Our main reader was Simon French whose collection Joyriding Down Utopia Avenue was published by Coverstory books earlier this year. He was more than ably supported by super contributions from Brian, Ann, David, Graeme and Jenna.
Two aspects of the hour-long session seemed to work particularly well: the format of a main reader supported by a number of others, and the displaying of the poems being read on-screen during the reading.
I think this is a format we can confidently follow in the future!
And there will be a future. When will the second ‘Contextual’ be, people wanted to know. Well, it’s slightly difficult with Christmas only a month away, but if we can get readers lined up, we may go for Wednesday 29th December – an ideal hour of relaxation between the frantic festivities of the Yuletide and New Year.
So please watch this space for confirmation of the date of the second ‘Contextual’!
