
Graeme Ryan was born in St Anne’s on Sea in Lancashire and, as a ‘sand-grown-un’, the sea and beach of the Ribble Estuary are a touchstone and undersong in his work.
He studied English Literature at Leeds University, taught English for a few years in Cornwall and Somerset and then graduated to Drama teaching. For twenty years he was Head of Drama and is the author of several full-length plays for young people, includingHeartland, The Name of the Beast, Hope Street and Tracks of the Free, all of which have been staged at The Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre in Taunton. Graeme is an active environmentalist, a member of Fire River Poets, MC’s their live poetry events, is a member of Bath Writers and Artists and has been a prize-winner in several national poetry competitions.
Valley of the Kings is his first full-length poetry collection.
