Author profile: K. M. Miller

Kate Miller headshot2Kate began writing poems as a child and has been exploring the world through words ever since. The poetry group run by John Birtwhistle at Southampton University took her efforts out of the teenage realm of the twee and self-obsessed and showed her how she could go deeper in her writing yet remain playful – a path she has been pursuing through poetry, drama and, more recently, a novel.

After a career as a journalist and magazine editor, Kate took an MA in Creative Writing and Theatre at Essex University and set up a theatre company, Pins & Feathers Productions, with director and actor Richard Syms. Their first show in 2012 was Kate’s play The Last Witch, and since then they have mounted several productions, touring to venues in Hertfordshire and London. (www.pinsandfeathersproductions.com)

As secretary of Hertford Writers’ Circle, and also attending Ware Poets, Kate is involved with a very active and supportive community of writers, and has edited and seen through to publication six anthologies of members’ work. She regularly runs creative writing classes for kids and adults.

Having recently completed a novel – Death in the Kingdom of Pines, an offbeat murder mystery set in the French Alps in the 1930s – Kate is currently editing that while planning the next one. [As at May 2020.]
